Home Frequently Asked Questions by the CETP Exam Takers
The Canadian Entry-to-Practice (CETP) Exams are national, competency-based, multiple-choice assessments in audiology and speech-language pathology. Regulatory bodies across Canada use them as part of licensure requirements. Requirements vary by province. Please confirm with the regulatory body in the province/territory where you plan to practice.
Important! Passing the CETP Exam is only one step towards obtaining licensure. Please communicate with your regulatory body for more information.
Eligibility is determined by the regulatory body in the province where you plan to practice.
Graduates of Canadian accredited programs may be eligible for conditional enrollment, where the university’s Program Director confirms to the CETP Department that the student has completed all academic and clinical requirements. The CETP Department is the operational unit within Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) that administers the CETP Exams AUD/SLP. It acts as the liaison between candidates and the provincial regulatory bodies.
The CETP Department administers the Exams on behalf of regulatory bodies.
The exams are offered three times a year:
Each sitting has its own enrollment window, accommodations deadline and exam date, all published on the CETP Exams website. All times shown are Eastern Time.
Register here. You may enroll only after you have confirmed with your provincial regulatory body or your Program Director that you are eligible to write the exam.
No. If you were educated outside Canada, you must first contact the regulatory body in the province where you intend to practice, and you must enroll during the published enrollment period for the sitting you want.
Your regulatory body must confirm your eligibility before the exam date. If it cannot confirm your eligibility at least 21 days before the exam, your enrollment will be cancelled and your fee refunded in full.
Enrollment cannot be reopened once the window has closed, even by a day. You will need to enroll for the next exam sitting.
Please note that you are responsible for tracking all deadlines. We send reminders after enrollment, but completing each step on time remains your responsibility. For detailed information on each step and all the deadlines, please visit the CETP Exams Website.
Cancellations must be submitted using the official Request for Cancellation Form with supporting documentation to info@cetpexams.ca. A refund depends on timing and individual circumstances. For more information, please visit the Changes, Cancellations and Refunds webpage.
Complete the official Request for Testing Accommodations Form, attach all supporting documentation, and email it to info@cetpexams.ca before the enrollment deadline for your sitting.
Important! Requests received after that date cannot be considered.
Approved accommodations apply only to the sitting for which they were requested; they do not carry over automatically to a future attempt.
Important! Documentation older than two years must be reconfirmed by the relevant professional.
No. The CETP Exams are national, standardized, psychometrically validated exams, and all candidates pay the same fee. No reductions or waivers are available.
When you enroll, you select your preferred exam modality: in-person or live remote proctoring. If you choose an exam centre, the enrollment system displays the list of available sites across Canada so you can select the most convenient one.
Important! You may change your delivery location up to four weeks before the exam.
The CETP Exams are computer-based only. Both modalities use a computer.
Remote sittings are monitored live and follow strict security rules, which are explained to the candidate in advance. The candidate will need:
You must complete the computer readiness check before exam day. You will receive detailed instructions on how to do this via email before the exam day.
No. Exam centres are professional testing facilities operated by a third-party exam provider. They are secure, monitored environments used for a range of high-stakes exams. However, on the day of the exam you are only seated in the same room as other CETP Exam candidates.
You can review your enrollment in the exam portal using the same link you used to enroll: your modality, your exam center (if applicable), your enrollment status, your exam date, and any accommodations requests.
The exam date for a sitting is fixed and cannot be changed.
Yes. If you are pregnant, you may request accommodations through the standard process: send your request and supporting medical documentation to info@cetpexams.ca before the enrollment deadline. Pregnancy does not automatically grant an accommodation; like every other request, it must be formally submitted and approved.
You can find detailed information on the CETP Exams website here.
No. Based on the Candidate Agreement you signed before the exam, the CETP Department sends your results directly to the regulatory body that confirmed your eligibility. The result shared is pass or fail only.
You will receive an email four to six weeks after the exam with instructions for accessing your own exam result.
Your CETP Exams AUD/SLP do not expire. Once you pass the CETP Exam, your result is valid indefinitely and does not need to be renewed or retaken.
Attempt limits are set by regulatory bodies, not by the CETP Department. Most Canadian regulators allow a maximum of three attempts.
Confirm the rules that apply to you with your regulatory body. All attempts must be disclosed to it, wherever they were written.
Important! Confirm the timelines that apply to exam attempts with your regulatory body.
You may re-write at the next available sitting, provided your regulatory body confirms your eligibility again. There is no mandatory waiting period imposed by the CETP Department, but you must wait for the next scheduled sitting.
The CETP exam is a competency-based, psychometrically validated examination. The scoring process follows several steps:
Each item on the exam is mapped to a specific competency category. To produce the performance profile included with your results, the number of correct responses within each competency area is calculated, converted to scaled indicators, and presented at the competency level. The performance profile also shows the number of items contributing to each competency, so you can understand the breadth of content assessed in each area.
The examination is designed and reported at the competency level, not at the question level. Competency-level feedback is intended to help candidates understand their relative strengths and areas for improvement without disclosing secure exam materials.
This multi-layered quality assurance process ensures the accuracy, fairness, and validity of the CETP exam results.
Through expert-driven exam development, psychometric standard-setting, and post-exam validation, the CETP Department works to ensure the exams are valid, reliable and free from bias.
Yes. You must disclose every previous CETP Exams attempt to your regulatory body, whether passed or failed, and whether written in that province or another jurisdiction.

The date of birth is used for identity verification.

Please keep it current and make sure you can access it through the process and retain all exam-related emails for reference.
Yes. You can update your CETP Exams profile information if something was entered incorrectly or if your personal details have changed. Changes to your legal name, date of birth, regulatory body, or record of previous exam attempts must be made by the CETP Exams Department. Email: info@cetpexams.ca.
Use the “Forgot your password” link on the login page; this is the only secure way to reset it. Please test your login before exam day.
At an exam centre: inform the invigilator immediately.
With live remote proctoring: notify the proctor first and follow their instructions. If the proctor cannot resolve the issue, contact Meazure Learning technical support (contact email and phone number will be emailed to you in a separate communication before the exam).
Yes, through the exam platform’s built-in communication tools, at the points in the session where communication is permitted. The proctor controls when that happens. You may always raise a technical or procedural problem, but you cannot start casual conversation or ask questions about exam content. The proctor controls when communication happens.
Yes, you can take a 15-minute break between Part 1 and Part 2 of the exam. You are permitted only one break. Please note that the exam clock keeps running during the break and does not count against the allotted time. You can receive additional breaks only as an approved testing accommodation.

Contact the CETP Department immediately at info@cetpexams.ca. Yes. You may wear simple wax or foam disposable earplugs, subject to inspection and approval by your invigilator or proctor on exam day. You may not wear any other ear-worn items, including earbuds, headphones, electronic noise-cancelling devices, and reusable silicone filtered earplugs.
Hearing aids and other prescribed assistive hearing devices are permitted. However, you should apply for testing accommodations mentioning this. You will also have to declare them at check-in and allow for visual inspection. Wireless streaming features may need to be disabled.
The only permitted consumable during the exam is a beverage in a clear container. If you need cough lozenges, you must inform the CETP Exams Department before the exam and also inform the invigilator or proctor on the day of the exam.
The exam has two (2) parts and always begins with Part 1: 90 questions in 2 hours, followed by Part 2: 80 questions in 1 hour and 45 minutes (for a total of 3 hours and 45 minutes). You must submit Part 1 before moving to Part 2. You cannot return to Part 1 once you submit it.
Within a part you may answer questions in any order, bookmark questions, return to any question, and toggle between the French and English versions of a question for reference. We recommend working through the questions in a sequence. You can submit a part yourself and if the time allotted runs out, the system submits your answers automatically.
No. Bookmarks are a navigation aid only. They are not visible to markers and do not affect scoring. Only your submitted answers are evaluated.
You are responsible for making sure your computer is ready and working before exam day. See question 13 in the General section for the full list.
In short: your own computer, a stable wired and secure connection, a working webcam and microphone, and a completed computer readiness check.
Write at a desk or table. You cannot write from a couch, bed or other soft surface. Any door giving access to your room must be visible to the camera during the exam.
The proctor scans your environment before you begin and again after your break. You do not need to remove books from the shelves neither artwork from the walls. However, make sure books are closed and nothing on display contains text/images related to audiology or speech-language pathology.
A stable, reliable internet connection is essential for a high-stakes exam, and if you choose the remote modality, you accept that risk. If your connection is unreliable, we strongly recommend that you write at an exam centre instead.
If you are disconnected, contact the Meazure Learning support team immediately so they can return you to the exam as quickly as possible. If disconnections continue and the session cannot be completed, please communicate with the CETP Exams Department. You may have to write the exam at a later sitting.
